Weekly Quick Collage: The Face

The Face
collage, 5 x 6.25 inches

I find faces endlessly fascinating - the secrets they can hide, yet at times so telling. Each one is different, and can present such different messages at different times. I can see why painting portraits could be so compelling. I had a lot of fun with this one!

“You think you know someone by looking at his face but what can one face say about the thousand thoughts behind those eyes.”

~ Marianne Wiggins, The Shadow Catcher

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot.

Roy G Biv: Yellow

 A couple of yellow butterflies...

... from those warmer days...

...a very cool old building in Richmond, VA...

... a family riding a tractor under a yellow awning...

... a yellow wall at the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen gallery in Berea, KY...

... a piece in the Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts in Louisville (sorry I neglected to record the name of the artist)....

It's that time in the Searching for Roy B Biv blog hop when we feature the color Yellow! Please check out the blogs of our hostesses Julie B Booth and Jennifer Coyne Qudeen, where you'll find links to many other yellow discoveries!

Addendum: Just a quick note to let you know that my work was featured in a collection on Artspan's homepage called, "Found, Fractured, and Fastened"! There's some cool artwork in the collection if you'd like to check it out.  Here's a link to the page on facebook.

Drawing Challenge: Spring Break

My piece for the drawing challenge has more to with the 'break' part than 'Spring'. I've been thinking lately of travel and exploring unique and far away places where I've never been (which covers just about everywhere).

Explore
collage, 5 x 5 inches

To see what others have done for the challenge, go to Veronica Roth's blog for all the links! Thanks for hosting, Veronica!

New Work: Lost II

Lost II
ingredients: vintage book covers, vintage ledger paper, lace, acrylic ink, Caran d'Ache crayons, watercolor pencils, image transfer, cloth, stitching

I write about the power of trying, because I want to be okay with failing. I write about generosity because I battle selfishness. I write about joy because I know sorrow. I write about faith because I almost lost mine, and I know what it is to be broken and in need of redemption. I write about gratitude because I am thankful - for all of it.
                                                                                                               ~ Kristin Armstrong

Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.
                                                                                                          ~ Henry David Thoreau

To be fully alive, fully human, and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest.
                                                                                                                          ~ Pema Chodron

Weekly Quick Collage Bonus: Question

I've been doing so many of these collages lately that I decided to post a second one this week.

Question

Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new.                                                                                       ~ Og Mandino

Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers.
                                                                                                                     ~ Voltaire

“Life is filled with unanswered questions, but it is the courage to seek those answers that continues to give meaning to life. You can spend your life wallowing in despair, wondering why you were the one who was led towards the road strewn with pain, or you can be grateful that you are strong enough to survive it.”
~ J.D. Stroube, Caged by Damnation
